Book Review: Nancy's Mysterious Letter by Carolyn Keene (Reviewed by Olivia)

My daughter Olivia (age 7) continues to love Nancy Drew books. And after reading her most recent book, Olivia asked me if she could write her own review for the blog. She wrote it out by hand (including the synopsis) and I'm just typing it. So here she goes, all in her own words...

Written by Carolyn Keene
Juvenile Fiction; Ages 8 and up

The book starts when Nancy mistakenly gets a letter of inheritance for a Nancy Smith Drew. The book is all about the things she has to do to find this Nancy Smith Drew. Will she ever find her? You will find out if you read the book.
I really liked this book. I was interested by the idea that someone out in the world had nearly the same name as Nancy. I liked the way she decided to search for this other Nancy. I liked that it took her a while to find her, and I didn't think she'd ever find her. How she went about her search was interesting to me.

  1. Olivia,
Thank you for this excellent book review. I love Nancy Drew! I have read and reread most of them since I was your age (a long 18 years ago.) Did you read the original version of the book, or the edited version? I have read only read the originals of a few of the books, but love them even more than the rewritten ones (which I did not think would be possible!) I have only read the edited version of "Nancy's Mysterious Letter," so I'm curious as to how the original was different.
Do you have a favorite Nancy Drew book yet?
    Thanks,
    Rae

    Rae,
Thank you for your comment! I didn't read the original one, I just liked the picture because it was a scene in the book.
I have 3 favorites so far: The Secret in the Old Attic; The Clue in the Jewel Box; The Mysterious Mannequin.

  4. Tell Olivia that her review is good! It makes me want to go back and re-read this one, a book I haven't read in 25 years or so! May I suggest the Bobbsey Twins or Trixue Belden (although Trixie might wait a few years)? I loved TB more than I loved Nancy Drew.

  5. Thanks for the Bobbsey Twins suggestion. Someone else mentioned them before too, and I keep forgetting to direct her attention to them when we go to the library. (Can you believe I have never read the Bobbsey Twins? Sacrilege, I know! Which probably accounts for why I keep forgetting them.)
